NEW AESTHERA LASER EFFECTIVE FOR HAIR REMOVAL ON ALL SKIN TYPES Dr. Ben Lee's office brings the Aesthera laser in house
ENGLEWOOD, CO - Dr. Ben Lee, cosmetic surgeon in Denver, Colorado, and his team of nurse practitioners are using the new Aesthera laser to perform hair removal. Dr. Lee introduced the new Aesthera Photopneumatic Therapy (PPx) laser to his practice in first quarter 2007. This patented technology is used for hair removal, skin rejuvenation and the treatment of vascular and pigmented lesions, including treating sun-damaged and aging skin, brown spots, redness and broken capillaries, as well as unwanted hair and unsightly veins.
Approved by the FDA for general use in first quarter 2007, Aesthera's Photopneumatic Therapy (PPx) reduces the light energy required for these applications to a fraction of the photons delivered by previous devices. Aesthera PPx is painless and up to five times safer. More efficient than previous generations of lasers, the PPx can perform full leg or whole back treatments in less than 20 minutes, procedures that historically took up to 120 minutes using other laser or light-based technologies.
As the first no pain and safer light based therapy, PPx Therapy is a combination of pneumatic energy (pressure) and broadband light. This highly efficient delivery of energy greatly reduces the possibility of side-effects such as redness, burning and scarring. PPx Therapy is also a more hygienic procedure thanks to a personalized single-use disposable tip, which is customized per treatment area.
And PPx requires no down time; immediately following the procedure, patients are ready to resume their normal activities.
"The addition of the PPx to our practice is an investment in patient comfort," says Dr. Lee. "Hair reduction is one of the treatments a broad range of our patients seek and the abbreviated time the treatment takes to perform using this technology allows us to accommodate our patients' busy schedules and achieve optimum results."
The efficiency of PPx Therapy results from its gently changing the optical characteristics of the skin. Using pneumatic energy, the Aesthera PPx pulls the skin into the treatment handpiece. That elevates hair follicles closer to the skin's surface. By manipulating the skin, the effectiveness of the laser increases in several ways: first, the skin is instantly thinner, which reduces the concentration of melanin. Second, the target of the laser (hair, damaged or discolored skin) is brought closer to the surface of the skin, resulting in a stronger response. Finally, the surrounding normal tissue is not subjected to unnecessary energy levels.
The PPx laser also doesn't require the assistance of cooling spray or cryogen spray, eliminating the need for 30-45 minute long numbing pre-treatments or topical anesthetic gel following treatment.
Another advantage of the Aesthera is that it uses replaceable treatment tips. No part of this laser that touches a patient's skin is used on more than one patient, the height of hygiene again when contrasted to previous generations of lasers.
The Aesthera's treatment specific microchip-driven IntelliTip(TM) is designed for different body parts with pre-programmed parameters for hair removal, skin rejuvenation or the treatment of vascular and pigmented lesions. Plus, by embedding photopneumatic technology into each of the single-treatment laser tips, this intelligent consumable reduces the possibility of operator error.
