A Breast Lift raises and reshapes sagging breasts that over the years have lost their fullness and elasticity. For a more youthful appearance, the breasts are lifted and the areola is reduced. In some cases, breast implants are inserted in conjunction with a breast lift, which affords patients the ability to increase breast size in addition to obtaining a shapelier, firmer look.
The best candidates for a breast lift are those with small breasts that have lost volume or taken to the effects of gravity over the years. Breasts of any size can be lifted but those with larger breasts need to be realistic about the results, which may not last as long. Also, those women who plan on having more children may want to postpone having their breasts lifted until they are done with child-bearing. While the procedure does not impede breastfeeding, it is likely that the breasts could stretch back out and offset the results of the procedure.
During the procedure, skin formerly located above the nipple is drawn down and taut to give the breast its new contour. After surgery, the breasts are higher and firmer, with sutures located around the areola, below it and in the crease under the breast. It is important to be realistic about your expectations following the procedure, every body is different and the outcome differs from person to person.
